There’s nothing like Christmas in the Great Smoky Mountains, and Franklin lies right at the heart of this beautiful landscape. Winter turns these mountains into a magical wonderland of twinkling lights and icicles, evoking a cinematic holiday feel. But when you’re here, it’s not on the big screen; it’s all around you. Check out the fun we have planned to help you get into the spirit of the season in Franklin.
Relaxed Black Friday Shopping
Franklin offers a wonderful shopping experience without the crowds, traffic and overall nightmare that is a typical Black Friday in the city. Here, in this picturesque mountain town, everyday shopping (even Black Friday) is pleasant and stress-free. Enjoy ample parking, then stroll down Main St. and surrounding areas to enjoy the unique shops, all while supporting small businesses in the beautiful Smoky Mountains. Best shopping center ever!
Winter Wonderland
The first night of our two-night Winter Wonderland party takes over historic downtown Franklin on Saturday, November 29. This special event features free horse-drawn carriage rides from 4:30 to 8 p.m. and then the Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony, when the 22-foot tall Christmas Tree on the Square is illuminated. Revelers also enjoy the Annual Candlelight Service sponsored by downtown merchants. The celebration includes live music, Christmas window displays and decor, hot chocolate, holiday-themed dining at downtown restaurants, and even a visit from Santa himself! (Don’t forget it’s also Small Business Saturday, so prepare to do a little shopping earlier win the day while you enjoy the decorations.)
And then, we do it all again on Saturday, December 6. It’s a little more toned down…the tree is already lit, and Santa Claus is visiting with the kids, but there won’t be carriage rides. Still, so much for the kids to enjoy, they won’t even notice it.
Annual Christmas Parade
On Sunday, Nov. 30, Franklin’s Annual Christmas Parade brings the spirit of the season to life on Main Street. Scores of local businesses and organizations come together to create a magical procession of sparkling floats, festive vehicles, and Christmas characters all moving to the music through historic downtown. The perfect family-friendly Sunday afternoon event, this parade is a great opportunity for making holiday memories together.
There’s no Christmas like a Smoky Mountain Christmas. And Franklin has everything you need to make your holiday joyful and memorable. In addition to all of the festivities, there are an array of dining options and fabulous places to stay.
