DESCRIPTION:Join the Town of Franklin as we\, along with our citizens\, honor Veterans on Tuesday\, November 11th with a parade & ceremony. \nThe parade will leave the lower level of Franklin Town Hall at 10:30 am and travel to the Gazebo on the Square for the ceremony. Special banners lead each group of Veterans along the parade route according to the war or time period of service. Parade lineup begins at 10:00am for Veterans that wish to participate. \nThe Veterans Ceremony begins at 11:00am and is always very moving. It features a guest speaker along with a wreath laying ceremony and the playing of Taps. Come\, bring the entire family and show your appreciation of these men and women who have served. DESCRIPTION:What started as one local family’s idea to bring more business to downtown Franklin after Christmas and drawing inspiration from the New York City ball drop\, the New Year’s Eve Ruby Drop has become one of Franklin’s favorite holiday traditions.  \nThis year marks the 14th anniversary the Crabtree family\, with help from the Town of Franklin\, has sponsored the New Year’s Eve Ruby Drop. \nThe Ruby Drop\, sponsored by Crabtree General Store & Coffee Vault\, will ring in the New Year with two ruby drops: \n\none at 9:00 p.m. and\nat midnight to officially welcome in 2027.\n\nThe red ruby suspended from a crane 60 feet in the air will drop the last minute of 2026 while the crowd cheers and recites the ceremonial countdown to midnight and the ringing in of the New Year. \nThe 800-pound ruby used in the Ruby Drop was built by Crabtree and his two brothers. The ruby is constructed of steel and plexiglass and is 7 feet tall and 7 feet in diameter. Over 1\,500 red lights lit up the inside of the ruby. \n        \n

At 110 miles on the AT\, we are an affordable\, authentic mountain town. Here’s just some of the ways we welcome and celebrate all the brave\, intrepid souls on the AT. \nFree Hiker Shuttle\nFree rides to and from the trails (locals may also pick you up for free). Many affordable places to stay. A daily free breakfast. Outfitters will repair and restock your gear. Community in 2010 by the Appalachian Trail Conservancy\, Franklin is the logical resupply/rest point between Hiawassee\, GA and the Nantahala Outdoor Center in Wesser\, NC. \nThe A.T. crosses Highway 64 at Winding Stair Gap 10 miles west of Franklin. \nMembers of the Franklin based Nantahala Hiking Club (NHC) work with the U.S. Forest Service and the Appalachian Trail Conservancy to maintain 58.5 gorgeous miles of the A.T. to include 10 shelters with privies\, 9 group camp sites and 26 scenic viewpoints. \n#AT110: Help us promote Franklin’s unique location at Mile 110 by tagging photos you take while in town.

While you go most places to see a parade\, we actually invite you to participate! Deck out in red\, white and blue and walk or drive down Main Street. NO REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. To join in\, just be in the lower level of Franklin Town Hall for lineup beginning at 10:30 a.m. \nFree Inflatables & Fun (10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.) Your young ones can enjoy FREE inflatables and fun during Franklin’s 4th of July Celebration. The inflatables will be located on Town Square in downtown Franklin along Main Street. \nLittle Mr. & Ms/ Firecracker Contest (11:30 a.m.) Be at the Gazebo on the Square in Downtown Franklin for the Little Mr. & Miss Firecracker Contest at 11:30am. This contest is open to ages 10 & under and is judged on patriotic costume and one question. No registration is required. Just come to the gazebo stage area to enter. \nPatriotic Pet Contest (11:45 a.m.) Following the Little Mr. & Miss Firecracker Contest (at approximately 11:45 am) is the Town of Franklin’s Annual Patriotic Pet Contest! Entries are judged on their patriotic attire and trophies are awarded for 1st\, 2nd & 3rd place. No registration is required. Again\, just be at the gazebo stage area to enter your pet. \nFranklin Fire & Rescue Water Feature (noon-ish) Make sure your young ones are dressed to play in water as Franklin Fire & Rescue opens up a water canon for young ones to enjoy and cool off! This feature will be available following the parade and contests.
