. . . . .

Ed Snodderly is a veteran Americana songwriter, guitarist, and storyteller whose work draws from Appalachian roots, old-time traditions, and a lifetime steeped in Southern music. His latest album, Chimney Smoke, is a deeply personal collection—rich with memory, place, and character—produced by Grammy-nominated R.S. Field and featuring a cast of acclaimed musicians and vocalists including Gretchen Peters, Amythyst Kiah, and Maura O’Connell.

Born and raised in Knoxville, Tennessee, Snodderly grew up surrounded by music, from British invasion records to family fiddle tunes. In 1976, he co-founded the legendary Down Home in Johnson City, TN—an intimate listening room that has hosted generations of influential artists across bluegrass, folk, and roots music.

With a career spanning decades, Snodderly has released albums on Sugar Hill and other respected labels, had songs recorded by artists like Jerry Douglas and Sam Bush, and received a lifetime achievement award from Folk Alliance for his contributions to Southern folk music. He’s also spent years teaching songwriting at East Tennessee State University, helping shape the next generation of artists.

Grounded, thoughtful, and unmistakably rooted in place, Ed Snodderly’s music carries forward a living tradition of American songwriting.
