Veterans Day Parade and Ceremony
On Monday, November 11, the Town of Franklin will hold its annual Veterans Day Parade & Ceremony on the streets of historic downtown. The parade will commence at 10:45 a.m. on Main Street and all Veterans are invited to participate. This patriotic procession of red, white, and blue recognizes various groups of U.S. Military Veterans, each from a different war or period of service. The parade is immediately followed by a very moving Veterans Ceremony on the Square, featuring special speakers, a wreath laying, and a rendition of “Taps”. Celebrate with a small town parade and honor those who served for our freedom.
A Relaxed Black Friday Shopping Experience?
Yes! How would you like to take advantage of Black Friday savings without the crowds, traffic and overall nightmare that is a typical Black Friday experience? Winter Wonderland
Winter Wonderland takes over historic downtown Franklin on the evenings of November 30 and December 7. On the first Saturday, this special event features the Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony, when the 22-foot tall Christmas Tree on the Square is illuminated for all to enjoy through the holidays. (Don’t forget it’s Small Business Saturday on Nov. 30, so prepare to do a little more shopping while you enjoy the decorations.)
Immediately following the Town of Franklin’s Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony, merchants will present the Annual Candlelight Service on the Speaker’s Corner at the Macon County Courthouse. The celebration will also include free carriage rides to truly complete the feel of the holiday season. Both nights will feature holiday sales at the shops on Main Street, Christmas window displays and decor, Winter Wonderland dining at downtown restaurants, and even a visit from Santa himself!
Rufus Morgan Trail & Falls
The Rufus Morgan Trail is just a short drive west of Franklin and is considered one of the best winter hikes in the area! The 1+ mile loop trail is well-maintained and meanders through the vast Nantahala National Forest. You’ll walk over creeks, under towering trees, and pass by the 60-foot tall Rufus Morgan Falls as you go. This is considered a moderate hiking trail, so pack some light gear and go on an adventure!
Broadway in the Mountains
On evenings of November 22 & 23, The Smoky Mountain Center for the Performing Arts presents “Merry Christmas Uncle Scrooge”. This two-act musical version of the Christmas classic by Charles Dickens is certain to entertain the whole family.
